Perlezon might be not one of the top ten stallions that would pop up to your mind when thinking of influental sires. But if he would never have been used in breeding then a a son of him would not have been born that was refered by many as “All-American horse”. But before introducing that “ahead-of-time” son of him, let’s have a closer look to the pedigree of Perlezon.

His sire: Gublazon

Perlezon was sired by the grey Gublazon. Gublazon was born at Gainey’s Fountainhead Arabians as a son by Ferzon. Ferzon was purchased as a yearling by Daniel C. Gainey of California for a record sum of $10,000. That grey little colt became chief sire at his stud farm and sired 227 registered foals, among them 24 U.S. and Canadian National Champions and 81 show champions.
Ferzon’s sire was Ferneyn, a heavily Crabbet bred stallion by Ferseyn out of Moneyna. His sire line traced back to the grey Skowronek, a stallion with much influence on the Crabbet breeding program back in the 1920’s. Moneyna traced back to the “war mare” Wadduda” in her dam line.
The grey Fersara (by Ferseyn) was Ferzon’s dam. She was a daughter out of Bint Sahara, an aristocrate mare in the U.S. and foundation mare at the McCoy’s Arabian farm/USA. Bint Sahara also producedthe legendary Fadjur (by Fadheilan), further the stallions Royal Grey (Champion All Arab Show in 1956 and full-brother to Fersara) and McCoys Count (by The Real McCoy).
Besides Fersara, Bint Sahara left more exquisite daughters by Ferseyn such as Sahara Rose, Sahara Star or Sahara Queen.

Gublazon was out of the mare Gubla. Gubla was a grey daughter by Royal Diamond. This stallion was of 100% Crabbet breeding. The famous U.S. breeder Bazy Tankersly acquired him and imported himfrom England to the USA in 1957.
Still in England, Royal Diamond sired Shafreyn (x Sharfina), a big deep chestnut stallion with much white and the grey mare Royal Radiance (x Silver Gilt), both exported to Fenwick Stud/Australia where Shafreyn sired top ten endurance horses and Royal Radiance gave birth to stallion Greylight (by Bright Shadow), one of Australia’s leading sires in the 70’s and 80’s.

Gubla’s dam was Ghuli, Champion Mare at the Midwest All-Arabian show in 1958. Ghuli’s sire was the Kellogg bred stallion Sureyn (Raseyn x Crabbet Sura) of 100% Crabbet breeding. This grey stallion sired many National winners such as the stallion Muhajid (x Silver Crystal) or the mares Surita (x Bonita) and Mi-Fancy (x Tuwaisan), all three U.S. National Champions.
Ghuli’s dam was Gharisa (Gharis x Mona Lisa), a mare with an interesting pedigree which is a interesting blend of Crabbet and Spanish bred Arabians. Gharisa’s dam line traces to Zulima, a mare acquired by the Yeguada Militar in Istanbul in 1905.
Ghuli also produced the 1966 Buckeye Sweepstakes Grand Champion Stallion Ghaazi (by Ferzon).

His dam: Bur-Lee

Perlezon was out of the bay mare Bur-Lee who was by Bu-Zahr (Ferzon x Tezka) and out of the mare Cheetta.
Born in 1957 at Gainey Fountainhead Arabians, Bu-Zahr was by Ferzon (see above) out of Pure Polish mare Tezka (Witez x Wierka). Bu-Zahr sold as a young colt to Walter Burkle that showed him at the National Classes in Estes Park in 1960 where he was Top Ten Stallion. Bu-Zahr sired the grey mare Moneek (x Litseyn) who is the dam of the mare Bangee. Bangee (by Bur-Zoro) produced Emkay First Lady+++ (by Amerigo), a very versatile mare shown in English Pleasure, Pleasure Driving and Halter classes in the late 70’s/early 80’s.
Another daughter of Bu-Zahr should also be mentioned here. With the Raseyn daughter Angyl (x Wierna) he sired the mare Bur Ann. Bur Ann produced 10 registered foals that all bred on. Her most successful son was Fire++/ (by Naborr), English Pleasure Champion of Southern Indiana All Arabian show in 1975.

Bur-Lee was sold to the Pershke family when she was a yearling. She gave birth to five stallions, among them Perlezon, and two mares before she was sold on.

Among Bur-Lee’s offspring only Perlezon had influence on the breeding program through his most famous son: Arn-ett Perlane.

Arn-ett Perlane, the All American horse

Arn-ett Perlane was born in 1978 to the grey mare ShadyLane Jupiter, then owned by Gordon or Colleen Grupe.
ShadyLane Jupiter was by the Rifraff son Seahorse Rocket (out of Bint Fersara, a daughter by Fersara and thus a granddaughter of Bint Sahara) and out of the mare Shady Lane Debraf (Rafgar x Debbie El).
ShadyLane Jupiter gave birth to 11 registered foals, all by Perlezon. Besides Arn-ett Perlane, only two of her foals bred on: the mare Arn-ett Almyra and the stallion Arn-ett Pergene.

Arn-ett Perlane was known for beeing ahead of his time due to his exotic type. With his presence and type he conquered the halter show ring in 1983 when he was named US National Champion and Scottsdale Senior Champion Stallion.
The bay stallion was acquired by Wayne Newton in 1988. Under his new owner Arn-ett Perlane was brought back to the halter show ring winning Canadian National Reserve Champion in 1990 and Scottsdale Reserve Champion one year later.
Due his major show wins he was honored Legion of Merit (+) by the American Arabian horse association.

Arne-tt Perlane sired only 78 foals as he got sterile in his later years. Some think that this was a result of steriods misuse that was not uncommon in the U.S. show rings in the 80’s.
For Wayne Newton, he sired the mare WN Mona Lisa out of WN Obession. Through her dam WN Mona Lisa is the half-sister to 2004 World Champion Top Ten Senior Mare WN Fawn Obsession and Qatar Int. Senior Champion Mare WN Easterobession (both by Padrons Psyche).
WN Mona Lisa left 4 foals (two mares and two geldings). Only her daughter LC Mon Amie bred on. This bay mare by Padron Psyche is the dam of regional halter winners Ophelie BPA, Cassiopeia BPA (both by Odyssey SC) and MS Obsession (by Phalanx BPA), as well as dam of multiple regional western pleasure winner Titus BPA+ (gelding by Meridien LTA).

Some of Perlane’s gets were exported to other countries, for example WM Kadima (x WN Kadidja) who was acquired by Thomas Mayer of Black Smoke Arabians, Germany. There the bay mare left 6 registered foals before she was exported to Sweden.

Still owned by Newton, Arn-ett Perlane died in January 2002 at the age of 23.

His sire Perli, as Perlezon was gently called, preceeded his son in death after suffering a stroke in 2001.
